📖 Chapter 1041 - Invitation!

“So, you’ve discovered it as well!” Wang Baole’s expression instantly became incredibly solemn. He even glanced around quickly, as if worried about others overhearing.

His actions stunned Xie Haiyang, who had originally been doubtful of the ancient records. It was clear that Wang Baole’s words made him feel disbelief.

"Sect Uncle, you…"

“Haiyang, what you just said to me… Don’t mention it to anyone else. The theory in your family’s ancient records is in fact the biggest secret in this entire Dao Domain!” Wang Baole took a deep breath and patted Xie Haiyang’s shoulder. While Xie Haiyang looked at him with an expression of utter bewilderment, Wang Baole let out a long sigh, eyes shining with profound light.

“Actually, when I was three years old, I had already discovered all the secrets of the world. Back then, I always wondered, who am I? Why am I here? Where is ‘here’?

“I kept asking myself these questions until I was five years old. Then, I finally came to understand that this world, no, this universe, is in fact nothing at all. Everything you see exists because I wanted it to. I wanted to see the world, and so, a world came to be.”

“This…” Xie Haiyang was initially shocked by Wang Baole’s words, but as he continued listening, he felt that something was off.

“You don’t have to say anything. I understand. This… is the helplessness of being the chosen one.” Wang Baole looked up at the sky with a profound and lonely appearance. Xie Haiyang didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry.

“Sect Uncle, can you be serious…”

Wang Baole glared at him.

“Be serious? That theory you mentioned almost scared my pants off! If everything doesn’t actually exist, then what am I doing right now?” Wang Baole looked down at his own hand and gave it a squeeze. Then he looked back at Xie Haiyang.

Xie Haiyang could only smile wryly.

“I also think it’s absurd. Plus, the ancient record that mentions the theory is too old, and it’s impossible to know where it comes from. Even the old ancestor of my Xie Family said that it was just the crazed ramblings of a madman.”

“Alright, let’s not think about this anymore.” Wang Baole patted Xie Haiyang’s shoulder and was about to continue speaking when his expression suddenly changed. He looked up and saw a long arc of light flying over from a distance.

There was a familiar figure inside the arc of light.

“Haiyang, leave me alone for a moment. I’ve got something to do.” As soon as Wang Baole spoke, Xie Haiyang nodded and cupped his fists before leaving. He knew very well that there were times when it was okay to be clever and times when he had to pretend not to see anything. Thus, he didn’t look back as he left, not even spreading out his divine sense at all.

Neither he nor Wang Baole noticed that when they were talking about that absurd theory, Little Missy, who was inside the mask fragment, actually trembled slightly, and her eyes showed deep confusion.

“I seem to… remember something… sixty-eight years? But… I can’t remember…”

As she muttered, Little Missy sat there inside the mask, hugging her knees. She seemed lonely and desolate, as well as more and more confused.

But Wang Baole didn’t know anything about Little Missy’s confusion. At that moment, he was looking at the approaching figure with a bright smile on his face.

The one who had come was a woman – the masked Li Wan’er!

She was wearing a blue dress, and her black hair was draped across her shoulders. Although she had flown over at high speed, her dress didn’t flutter in the slightest, nor did her hair come loose at all. She was just as graceful as always.

As she approached, Wang Baole looked at her, and she looked back at him. She landed next to Wang Baole and spoke softly.

“You know?”

“Yeah.” Others might not have understood Li Wan’er’s words, but Wang Baole knew that she was asking if he had figured out her identity.

“Uncle Li is doing well, and the others are also fine. You don’t need to worry about them.” Wang Baole thought for a moment before speaking softly. At the same time, he let out an emotional sigh inwardly. The woman in front of him was the first woman he’d ‘been with’ in his life.

To a certain extent, she was the one who had pushed him down first…

When his thoughts reached this point, Wang Baole couldn’t help but recall the scenes from back then, making him cough dryly and shoot Li Wan’er a sneaky glance.

Li Wan’er obviously noticed, but she pretended not to know. Instead, she smiled and winked and Wang Baole.

“Zhuo Yifan is also doing well, as is Kong Dao.”

Wang Baole’s expression froze. He had previously suspected that Zhuo Yifan and Kong Dao, who hadn’t returned to Earth, might have been taken to the Moon Star Sect like Li Wan’er. However, he didn’t know for sure, and even Lin You didn’t have an answer.

Thus, when he heard it directly from Li Wan’er’s mouth, he felt a wave of relief washed through him. However, that relief was immediately followed by suspicion. He didn’t know whether the existence of the Moon Star Sect was a good or bad thing for the Federation.

As if seeing through Wang Baole’s thoughts, Li Wan’er fell silent for a moment before slowly speaking.

“The Moon Star Sect probably doesn’t have any malicious intentions toward the Federation. However, they have always been investigating something that has a deep connection with our solar system. I don’t know what exactly that connection is. I only know that… for countless years, the Moon Star Sect has been trying to verify a certain answer.”

"An answer?" Wang Baole was startled.

“I don’t know what that answer is either… But aside from the birthday celebration, I’m also here for one more thing. The Moon Star Sect’s old ancestor, Old Man Moon Star, has instructed me to pass a message to you.” Li Wan’er was unable to hide the strangeness in her gaze as she looked at Wang Baole.

Wang Baole couldn’t understand what Li Wan’er meant by these words and this gaze. His intuition told him that she… was indeed the same Li Wan’er that he remembered, but there were also some differences.

“He wants to send me a message? What is it?” Wang Baole pondered for a moment before asking in surprise.

“The old ancestor invites you for a meeting. The meeting will take place in sixty-eight years, on the nineteenth day of the seventh month, at the Moon Star Sect’s Heaven Observing Cliff!” A deep light flickered in Li Wan’er’s eyes. The words she spoke seemed simple, but when they landed in Wang Baole’s ears, they turned into heavy doubts that couldn’t be dispelled.

‘Such a specific time…’ Wang Baole slowly furrowed his brows. He felt that there was something wrong, but he just couldn’t figure it out. Obviously, Li Wan’er wouldn’t be able to dispel his doubts, so he just remained silent.

Seeing Wang Baole’s silence, Li Wan’er hesitated for a moment, then spoke softly.

“Baole, there are some things I’m not very clear about, so I can’t tell you the details. But I believe that the old ancestor has no malicious intentions in sending you this message, and there must be some special reason behind his actions.

“Also, the old ancestor said that it doesn’t matter whether you accept this invitation or not.”

“I see.” Wang Baole smiled slightly, burying this matter in his heart and suppressing his doubts. He looked at Li Wan’er, but it was a pity that the mask prevented him from seeing the face in his memory. He could only look into her eyes to find some of that past familiarity.

Unfortunately, even that seemed to slowly be dissipating with time.

“You’re no longer the same as before.” After a while, Wang Baole spoke with an emotional sigh.

When she heard that, Li Wan’er fell silent for a long time. The ground beneath them rose and fell as the giant snake slithered along, and the sun eventually set as the bright moon rose. Finally, as a slight breeze blew, she opened her mouth to speak.

“Maybe I’ve changed because I’ve matured. But I… am still me.” After speaking, Li Wan’er bowed once to Wang Baole before turning around and silently walking away.

Perhaps it was the moonlight, or perhaps it was the surroundings, but in Wang Baole’s vision, Li Wan’er’s departing figure seemed bleak and desolate.

“Moon Star Sect…” Wang Baole narrowed his eyes and muttered in a low voice. In the distance, Li Wan’er suddenly paused and turned around. When she looked back at Wang Baole this time, the familiarity in her eyes that had slowly been fading seemed to instantaneously strengthen once more. Evidently, Li Wan’er had come to some sort of decision in her heart. As she looked at Wang Baole, her lips moved slightly, and she sent a sound transmission into his mind!

“Baole, the mountain gate of the Moon Star Sect is engraved with a certain sentence… There are gods three feet above your head[1]!”

  1. This is a saying that roughly means “the gods are always watching you”. Incidentally, the synopsis of this novel contains a negation of this saying – “There are no gods three feet above my head, there is a world in the three inches of my palm”. ↩
